A public record should distinguish results from positions and ongoing advocacy. The following summary explains what moved forward, what I supported or opposed, and what remains unfinished.

🏬Water Security and Major Infrastructure

  • Supported and advanced a long-term agreement with the Town of Ladysmith to provide treated bulk water to Saltair.
  • Supported continued work on Stocking Lake Dam, water-system resilience and the infrastructure needed to protect long-term supply.
  • Advocated for an interconnection approach projected to cost materially less than constructing and operating a separate Saltair filtration plant.
  • Supported major improvements to Saltair Centennial Park, the Thetis Island Community Dock and other community assets.
  • What remains: Complete the Ladysmith interconnection, advance filtration and storage, finish dam-related work, and communicate project costs and milestones clearly.

💵 Fiscal Responsibility and Taxation

  • Advocated for a 2.5% budget cap during the 2025 process.
  • Supported closer scrutiny of regional services and expenditures that were not demonstrating measurable results.
  • Voted to reduce or eliminate funding where implementation and value were not clear, including economic development and regional planning work.
  • Continued to emphasize that fiscal responsibility means prioritizing essential services and infrastructure, not refusing all investment.

❤️ Rebuilding Trust and Accountability

  • Voted against adoption of the Modernized Official Community Plan after concluding it lacked sufficient public confidence and social licence.
  • Supported beginning the repeal process in 2026.
  • Supported stopping the Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw process after substantial public opposition.
  • Called publicly for reflection, accountability and better service standards following planning failures and prolonged development delays.
  • Pressed for clearer timelines, better performance reporting and a customer-centred culture in Land Use Services.

🏠 Housing and Responsible Development

  • Supported responsible housing proposals that expand choices for families, workers and seniors.
  • Supported moving the Handy Road rental proposal to a Public Hearing so residents could participate formally before later decisions.
  • Argued that housing, infrastructure, environmental protection and rural character must be considered together rather than treated as mutually exclusive.
  • Advocated for predictable approval timelines and practical options that allow families and seniors to adapt their properties as needs change.

🏞️ Parks, Trails, Recreation and Community Assets

  • Supported the revitalization and continued development of Saltair Centennial Park.
  • Supported protection and improvement of the Thetis Island Community Dock.
  • Advocated for community facilities, recreation opportunities, trail connections and appropriate locations for dog parks.
  • Supported maintaining existing assets so taxpayers are not left with avoidable replacement costs.

⚠️ Safety, Emergency Readiness and Island Infrastructure

  • Raised road safety, speed, pedestrian access and ditching concerns with the Province, which controls most Area G roads.
  • Supported regional wildfire coordination and emergency preparedness, including stronger cooperation between local fire departments and BC Wildfire.
  • Advocated for reliable marine and emergency access for island communities, including Penelakut dock needs and Thetis and Ruxton infrastructure concerns.
  • Raised watershed security and wildfire-risk concerns related to access in sensitive areas.

🏠Shelter Costs and Fiscal Stewardship

  • I have advocated for a permanent, fiscally responsible response to provincially mandated emergency warming and cooling shelter requirements. Temporary solutions have cost local taxpayers nearly $1 million over two years while providing no permanent asset. I supported exploring the former Koksilah School as a potential long-term public solution and called for transparency after a full-price public-sector proposal did not result in a sale.
