  • Publish and track clear service standards for planning and development applications.
  • Report application volumes, timelines and bottlenecks in language the public can understand.
  • Consult residents earlier, before major policy directions harden.
  • Respect rural property rights, environmental responsibilities and community character.
  • Treat residents, applicants and professionals as customers and partners.

2: Secure Water and Critical Infrastructure

Reliable water and well-maintained infrastructure are fundamental responsibilities of local government.

  • Complete the Stocking Lake Dam and Ladysmith interconnection work.
  • Advance affordable filtration, storage and system-resilience solutions for Saltair.
  • Provide plain-language updates on schedules, costs, funding and risks.
  • Use disciplined asset management to prevent avoidable emergency costs.

3: Support Responsible Housing and Rural Property Rights

Families, workers and seniors need more choices, while development must respect infrastructure capacity and local conditions.

  • Support attainable housing in appropriate locations.
  • Enable seniors to age in place and families to adapt properties to changing needs.
  • Use existing infrastructure efficiently and require clear community benefits.
  • Protect a fair public process and predictable application timelines.
  • Reject the false choice between housing and responsible environmental stewardship.

4: Strengthen Parks, Recreation and Community Assets

Parks, trails, docks, community centres and recreation facilities directly shape quality of life.

  • Continue improving Saltair Centennial Park and local recreation opportunities.
  • Explore appropriate locations and funding options for dedicated dog parks.
  • Protect the Thetis Island Community Dock and other critical public assets.
  • Pursue trail connections and partnerships where they are practical and supported.
  • Plan for maintenance before small problems become expensive failures.

5: Maintain Fiscal Discipline and Accountable Government

Every tax dollar comes from a household or business facing pressures of its own.

  • Scrutinize budgets and services for measurable public value.
  • Prioritize essential infrastructure, safety and core services.
  • Seek provincial, federal and partner funding where responsibilities overlap.
  • Explain major votes and trade-offs publicly.
  • Report annually on commitments, progress, costs and unresolved issues.

6: Deliver Fair Representation for Rural and Island Communities

Island and rural challenges are often poorly understood from the mainland and require persistent advocacy.

  • Advance marine access, emergency response and infrastructure priorities for Thetis, Penelakut and Ruxton.
  • Build practical partnerships with First Nations, community associations, the Province and neighbouring governments.
  • Press the Province for action on roads, drainage, speed and pedestrian safety.
  • Ensure public engagement includes residents who cannot easily attend mainland meetings.

Good local government is not built by one person at a podium. It is built by residents who participate, representatives who listen and a community willing to work through difficult decisions together.
